Un Succès Français
The folks who bring you Brasserie Cassis, as well as Bistro Cassis and Bistro Citron, have the French formule down to a science. However, this time, instead of transforming already quaint locations in the midst of appealing downtowns (Huntington, Roslyn), they’ve gambled a bit and worked their magique in a Plainview shopping center storefront. But when you enter, you’re momentarily transported out of Plainview and into a dining scene evocative of a time and place 100 years ago and a continent away.
A Smooth Sushi Scene
It’s one big adventure: Airy, ambient music, turned up as the Saturday-night crowd thickens. Towering burgundy banquets line one wall under slate panels. A backlit bar and massive glass chandelier, changing color as day becomes night, holds sway over lounges for drinking and nibbling. An extended sushi bar anchors the dining room. Fabric-covered archways divide the rooms.
The Gifted Child
Chemistry teacher Joyce Sher takes two circuit wires and touches them together, and a little light bulb turns on, while she explains to her students, “If electricity goes to your head in just the right spot, then…” Her classroom looks like most elementary schoolrooms—piles of marble-covered notebooks, a few stacks of LEGOS, a toy dog that walks on a nearby table.
