Tough Interview Questions

My new book, The Everything Job Interview Book, 2nd Edition, hit bookstores recently. With unemployment statistics climbing since then, I thought this might be a good opportunity to share some of the content with Long Island Press readers. With the publisher’s permission, I’ve excerpted part of a chapter titled, “The Abominable Zinger.”



The Gang’s Ale Here

You have to love an alehouse that’s got a dedicated beer menu, especially one that proclaims, “Beers we do not carry: Bud, Miller & Coors.” What Croxley Ales does stock is an incredible 68 ales and lagers on draught, including, of course, many craft beers.



Bloody Great

Several months ago, I penned an installment of “Sonic Boom” titled “My Bloody Luck,” in which I lamented the fact that I would not be able to attend the September concerts held in New York City by the recently reunited Irish shoegazer band My Bloody Valentine.



Warning

When someone tells me that they are expecting a child, I greet the news with vigorous enthusiasm, complete with back slapping-if it’s a guy breaking the news, of course-and gushing promises of how wonderful the experience will be. In fact, I cannot stop myself from talking, and almost always will find myself trying to stop the mouth from running on any longer. I just respond to the news with real emotion and good wishes. I can’t help myself.My reaction is very different when someone tells me that he or she is getting married.



We All Scream

Massachusetts has a long ice cream history, dating from the first Howard Johnson’s that opened in Quincy, Mass. in 1925 to Friendly’s in Springfield in 1935. With two of the second wave of legendary ice cream stores now open locally, we can enjoy the best of Boston right here on Long Island.
