You have to take care of your own, especially during the tough times. Every day, the headlines tell the story of the recession that has begun to overtake our economy. People are spending their dollars wisely. One of the aspects of smart shopping is seeing your dollars stay local. The money Long Islanders spend in local businesses ensures that the money stays close to home. There are thousands of merchants across this Island who have been the backbone of our economy for generations. Let’s make sure they are here to stay. Each week, KIOLI will feature a local business. Let them know you saw their message here. And of course, spend your money with them. Let’s Keep It On Long Island.

How long have you been in business on LI?
I’ve been in business for 2 1/2 years.
How did you get into this business?
My brother had been asking me to open up a candy and chocolate store for about five years before he was finally able to convince me to do it. We both always loved that old-fashioned feel that candy stores used to have and we tried to bring that back to life.
What is your favorite memory of doing business on LI?
My favorite memory is the reaction of the children and adults when they first come to my store. They’re always so happy and excited! Also, I recently designed a candy table all in Blue and White at the beautiful Oheka Castle for a valued customer. The Bride called before she left for her honeymoon to say it was the hit of the event.
How are you different from your competition?
I have a real old fashioned charm to my store, with fresh fudge, homemade chocolate covered pretzels and hot popcorn.
Who is the biggest celebrity you have ever served/done business with?
Ryan Starr, Brian Kilmeade, and Courtney Galiano (So You Think You Can Dance) our favorite local celebrities and Ken Grimball from News 12.
What is your hottest-selling item?
The hottest selling items are the Candy Carts and Tables for Bar/Bat Mitzvahs, Confirmations, and Weddings. Also the gift baskets that we make are second to none, in fact I just sent a basket to Russia for a customer that is adopting a son.
Can people shop online at your store?
Yes, my website is www.pennydazecandy.com or call 631-462-5710
What’s your favorite local restaurant?
My favorite local restaurant is the Red Dish.
Hamptons or Fire Island?
Hamptons.
Do you have a Long Island accent?
My children say I do.
Billy Joel, Run-DMC, Johnny Maestro or Push Play?
Of course Billy Joel, tell him and his new wife to come on by.
