Long Island has been a successful staging area for Fox TV’s hit reality show Kitchen Nightmares—at least for the producers of the show. For the restaurants themselves: not so much. Almost every one has closed for one reason or another, despite big Brit know-it-all-chef and restaurateur Gordon Ramsey’s foul-mouthed encouragement and big-buck makeovers. Peter’s Italian Restaurant in Babylon is the latest to disappear. The Mixing Bowl Eatery, Trobiano’s and Seascape have all closed as well. But if you own a restaurant with at least 35 seats and have been open for more than a year and would like Chef Gordon to come in for a week with cameras in tow and solve your problems (or hasten your demise) contact Twinsworld1@aol.com. Make sure to include the name of your restaurant, your name, phone, location, size, history, type of cuisine, photos or a website and why you need help. Fans of the show know that the personalities of the staff and any internal conflicts are essential to the drama, so applicants are encouraged to play that aspect up.

Mirabelle, the top rated French restaurant helmed by the talented Guy Reuge is moving from St. James to Three Village Inn in Stony Brook, as part of the Lessings group of restaurants. Perfectly planned for these challenging times, a moderately priced off-shoot Mirabelle Tavern will open in early spring and the original Mirabelle Restaurant will open in late spring, after a complete redo of the dining rooms. According to Reuge “It was a great 25 years at Mirabelle in St. James and I look forward to this next chapter—not only for Mirabelle, but for our customers and for myself.”
