Heavy Heart

Do you remember the Canadian proto-thrash band Anvil? They were kind of big in the early ’80s? Not as big as, say, Scorpions or Judas Priest, but of the same era and genre? No? Maybe? I am told they had a few albums of note: Hard N Heavy (1981); Metal on Metal (1982); Forged in Fire (1983)?



Nothing But Net: For the Week of April 23 – April 29

The age old dilemma: Another issue of the Press hits newsstands. You rush to open it, skipping past the Vagina Monologues-esque “Dry Martino” and the 41st installment of the Fifteen Albums series in “Sonic Boom” to get to “NBN.” And look! There is a picture set mentioned. They are great pictures. None of this is surprising.

At The CookRoom in Middle Island, “Granny” Annie Mandler and her son Jimmy have created their dream come true inside their own ’50-era diner, on a stretch of road across from a butcher shop called “The Cow Palace.”
