LI Dolphin Visits Could Mean Water is Cleaner

Experts say recent bottlenose dolphin sightings could indicate that water quality has improved in Long Island Sound. Experts say it’s been at least 30 years since they’d seen bottlenose dolphins in the Sound in the summertime. The first sightings were Thursday off Glen Cove. They reappeared again Monday. A smaller group was spotted off City Island, in the Bronx.



Pistons fire coach Michael Curry after 1 season

DETROIT (AP) — (AP) – The Pistons fired Michael Curry on Tuesday after Detroit finished under .500 in his first year as coach and was swept in the first round of the playoffs. The Pistons began the season with big hopes but couldn’t recover from the loss of All-Star point guard Chauncey Billups in a November trade to Denver for Allen Iverson. The Pistons went 39-43 and exited the postseason in four lopsided losses to the Cleveland Cavaliers.



Home prices post 18.1 percent annual drop in April

NEW YORK (AP) — There is a clear trend home prices declines are moderating – another sign the beleaguered housing market is stabilizing, according to data released Tuesday. While the Standard & Poor’s/Case-Shiller index of 20 major cities tumbled by 18.1 percent, it marked the third straight month the decline was not a record. And yearly losses in 13 metros improved compared to March.



Allison, Waltrip among nominees for Hall of Fame

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Former drivers Bobby Allison and Darrell Waltrip are two of the 25 nominees for the first NASCAR Hall of Fame induction class.



Queens Man Fatally Shot in Bay Shore

A Queens man was shot to death in Bay Shore on Monday night, Suffolk police said. Third Precinct officers were called to 11 Spruce St. where they discovered Alixander Catapano, 27, of Ozone Park, lying on the front lawn with a gunshot wound to the back at 10:35 p.m., according to Homicide Squad detectives. The victim was taken to Southside Hospital where



Nowitzki’s former fiancee now in Missouri jail

BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) — Dirk Nowitzki’s former fiancee has been transferred from a Texas jail to a lockup in Missouri. Authorities said Tuesday that Crystal Taylor, arrested at the Mavericks star’s Dallas home in May, was taken to Missouri after posting bond in Jefferson County. Taylor, 38, faces probation violation charges and a theft warrant in Missouri.
