MANILA, Philippines (AP) — Former President Corazon Aquino, who swept away a dictator with a “people power” revolt and then sustained democracy by fighting off seven coup attempts in six years, died on Saturday, her son said. She was 76.



Report: 3 American hikers arrested in Iran

SULAIMANIYAH, Iraq (AP) — The U.S. State Department said Friday it was investigating reports that three American tourists have been detained by Iranians while hiking near Iran’s border with the self-ruled Kurdish region in northern Iraq. Two Kurdish officials, speaking on condition of anonymity because they weren’t authorized to release the information, said the Americans apparently were arrested after entering Iranian territory without permission



Estranged Husband Charged With Murdering Wife in East Hampton

An East Hampton man was arrested for killing his estranged wife Thursday after the couple’s 11-year-old son placed a 911 call alerting police that his mother had been stabbed, Suffolk police said.

Blanca Soto, 29, was found suffering from stab wounds at her East Hampton trailer park at around 10:20 p.m. before she was taken to Southampton Hospital where she died, according to Detective Lt. Jack Fitzpatrick, commanding officer of the Homicide Squad

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Dr. Conrad Murray was in dire financial shape when he signed on as Michael Jackson’s personal physician earlier this year at $150,000 a month. The Las Vegas cardiologist owed a total of at least $780,000 in judgments against him and his medical practice, outstanding mortgage payments on his house, delinquent student loans, child support and credit cards.
