New York State Police ticketed a combined total of 226 drivers during two simultaneous checkpoints Sunday morning, one for speeding on Ocean Parkway and the other for motorcyclists on Meadowbrook State Parkway.
Troopers wrote 138 tickets, 45 of which were for speeding, and in two cases used radar-equipped aircraft to arrest two speeders doing more than 100 miles per hour on Ocean Parkway, police said. A motorcyclist was caught doing 107 miles per hour and a car was stopped for driving 102 mph.

The motorcycle checkpoint in Merrick resulted in 88 tickets after 156 motorcycles were inspected, police said. Troopers were given the assignment to “proactively enforced applicable vehicle and traffic laws as well as conducted educational efforts, with special emphasis on safety violations: substandard helmets, unsafe tires, insufficient lighting, unlicensed and operating out of class, and similar violations,” police said in a statement.
In addition to raising awareness, one drunken driver was arrested–not on a motorcycle–and one vehicle was impound for unlicensed operation.
