A Great Neck village zoning official tried to rape a girl he drove home from Valley Stream four weeks ago, Nassau police said.
Nick Nabavian, 45, offered to drive the 17-year-old girl from Green Acres Mall to a friend’s home in Great Neck, but then stopped at his home and once inside, had sexual contact with the victim against her will on Aug. 2, according to 6th Squad detectives. The victim tried to call the police, but Nabavian grabbed and broke her cell phone, police said. He eventually drove the victim home.
Nabavian was arrested Sunday morning at his home without incident and was charged with criminal sexual act, attempted rape, sexual abuse, coercion and criminal mischief.
The village’s mayor says Nabavian has been asked to take a leave of absence while the incident is under investigation. Defense attorney Robert McDonald did not immediately return a call requesting comment.
Detectives ask anyone who may have been the victim of a similar crime by the defendant to call the Sixth Squad at 516-573-6653.
