ShotSpotter Notifies Officials Of Roosevelt Gunfire

The ShotSpotter system detected gunfire in Nassau County late Saturday.

According to officials, at 6:10 p.m., officers were notified of an activation of the ShotSpotter system in Roosevelt that detects when gunshots are fired as far as a mile away. It noted shots being fired on the corner of St. Francis Street and Cumberland Avenue.

Officers recovered six 9mm shell casings in front of a Cumberland Avenue driveway though no injuries or damage was reported.

An investigation is underway and detectives ask anyone with information regarding this crime to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.  All callers will remain anonymous.

Nassau County police have been using the technology in Uniondale and Roosevelt for two years. Within 30 seconds, the system notifies both dispatchers and police officers on patrol of its exact location, how many rounds and whether the shooter is moving or not.
