Nesconset Woman, 21, Killed in Crash

Collided with truck on Veterans Memorial Highway


suffolk_police_carA car crash claimed the life of a young Nesconset woman after her vehicle collided with a tractor trailer in Holbrook Tuesday night.

Suffolk police said Leann Mazzeo, 21, was driving a 1998 Ford southeast on Veterans Memorial Highway near Broadway when a tractor trailer driven by Bruce Shively, 44, of East Stroudsburg, Pa., turned left in front of her car, according to 5th Sqaud detectives. The rig hit Mazzeo’s car and caused her to go off the road, police said.

Mazzeo was pronounced dead at the scene. Shively did not suffer any injuries.

Mazzeo’s car was impounded for a safety check. The tractor-trailer was inspected at the scene by the the Motor Carrier Safety Team.

Detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed this crash and was not already interviewed to call the 5th Squad at 631-854-8552. All calls will be kept confidential.

  5. Vets highway is a dangerous road, too much traffic, too many people going thru red lights, and driving well over the speed limit. The worst intersections are Broadway ave and at Lakeland ave
