A Hicksville man was arrested Sunday for impersonating a detective, Nassau police said.
Gregory Castaneda, 24,was driving his Acura at 3:15 a.m. on Sept. 18 on Merrick Avenue in Westbury, when he saw an 18-year-old woman walking on the side of the road. Castaneda pulled up beside the victim, claimed to be a police detective and offered her a ride home, according to 3rd Squad detectives. She accepted, got in the car, and was driven to her home in Carle Place, police said.
Later that day, at 10:30 p.m., Castaneda returned to the victim’s Carle Place home, entered the house through an unlocked front door and was then confronted by the victim’s father, police said. Castaneda again allegedly claimed to be a police detective and was told where the female victim worked.

Shortly later, Castaneda went to the victim’s place of employment and again identified himself as a police detective, investigators said. When he was asked to produce a badge to verify the claim, he was unable to do so, at which time the victim became suspicious and called police.
Following an investigation, Castaneda surrendered to real detectives at the 3rd Precinct He was charged with burglary and criminal impersonation. He will be arranged at First District Court in Hempstead on Sunday.
