A 60-year-old man found dead of an apparent suicide on a South Fork beach on Wednesday afternoon, Southampton Town Police said. 
A jogger on the beach in Sagaponack near Peters Pond Lane discovered an unconscious man in the ocean surf at 3:06 p.m. The victim, a Sag Harbor resident whose name police did not release, was removed from the water. Investigators said he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound earlier in the afternoon.
The victim was taken to the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s Office in Hauppauge for further examination. The weapon was recovered at the scene and the victim’s family was notified, police said.
