A vehicle crash in Wheatley Heights claimed the life of an elderly man Thursday afternoon, Suffolk police said. 
Philip Goldberg, 77, was driving on Chelmsford Drive when he struck a parked, unoccupied landscaping truck at 3:26 p.m., according to 1st Squad detectives. He was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip where he was pronounced dead an hour later.
Goldberg’s vehicle was impounded for a safety check. The Motor Carrier Safety Section officers responded and conducted a safety check on the landscaping truck. No violations were found, but the owner was issued four summonses.

Arturo Landaverde, 33, of Hempstead, was cited for parking on the wrong side to the curb, parking more than 18 inches from the curb, operating with a suspended license and possession of a suspended license.
The investigation is continuing, police said. Anyone with information on the crash is asked to contact 1st Squad detectives at 631-852-8152.
