Mastic Man Nabbed for Unemployment Fraud

A Mastic Beach man was arrested Tuesday for unemployment fraud, New York State Police said.

Darrel Holmes, 41, was accused of stealing more than $10,000 in unemployment benefits over the past three years, during which time he was had a job, police said. It was not immediately clear what kind of work Holmes allegedly was doing at the time he was claiming the benefits.

Holmes was being investigated by the New York State Department of Labor, which has been focusing on similar cases in Suffolk.

Holmes will be arraigned at Town of Riverhead Court on Oct. 23.
