The two troopers had pulled over a car for a broken brake light on Route 24 in Southampton and while they were attempting to interview the driver, the passenger, Kevin Smith, 34, of Flanders, “prevented the driver from giving his information to the troopers” at 12:20 a.m., police said.

Smith then got out of the vehicle, struck one of the troopers in the chest with his elbow and continued to be combative until he was handcuffed, police said.

He was charged with obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.  He will be arraigned at Town of Southampton Court.
