Suffolk police arrested an East Massapequa man, currently locked up at Suffolk County Jail, for robbing a bank in Bay Shore on April 2.

Major Case Investigations Unit detectives said Kenneth Lawrence, 52, robbed the Roslyn Savings Bank branch on East Main Street by giving the teller a note demanding cash. He then verbally threatened the teller with a gun if his demands were not met, police said.

Lawrence was charged with one count of robbery. He is presently incarcerated at an unrelated charge from May for criminal sale of a controlled substance, crack cocaine. He will be arraigned on the new charge on Wednesday at Suffolk County Criminal Court in Riverhead.

Prison records show Lawrence was released from Riverview Correctional Facility in 2004 after he served eight years for burglary. He also spent most of the 1980s in prison for robbery and attempted burglary.
