Sixty vehicles that were seized by Nassau police will be auctioned off on Wednesday at the Police Impound Yard in Bethpage.
The vehicles were seized from offenders who committed crimes ranging from driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, robbery and drug charges.
The auction includes: 2004 Nissan 350Z, 2004 Infiniti and 2001 BMW seized from three men convicted of racing on the Long Island Expressway, speeding and reckless endangerment. It also includes a 1999 Ford Windstar seized from a man convicted of robbery after stealing 10 packs of cigarettes from a 7-11. Another auction item includes a 1990 Buick whose owner was convicted of attempting to sell quantities of cocaine, marijuana, Vicodin and Percocet.
The auction is being run by Buffalo-based Auctions International and proceeds from the auction will go to the forfeiture fund, which is put back into the community through crime-reduction programs and investigations.
“We aggressively investigate and prosecute crime, and when it’s all over, we go after the criminals’ proceeds,” Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice said in a statement. “We make sure crime doesn’t pay, and that the criminals are the people picking up the tab.”
