Obama tempers economic news with caution on jobs

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama on Saturday tempered excitement about a growing economy with a sober outlook that more people will lose their jobs. He called that a heartbreaking reality and cautioned that even a burst of upbeat news “does not mean there won’t be difficult days ahead.” Obama’s straddle served to set expectations for a nation emerging from recession but anxious for an economic security that has not nearly returned. The good news of the week: The economy is on the rise for the first time in more than a year.



Calif. searchers scour seas 2 days after air crash

SAN DIEGO (AP) — A flotilla of rescue vessels continued its search Saturday for nine people feared dead at sea following an air collision between a Coast Guard aircraft and a Marine Corps helicopter. Six Coast Guard cutters, three Navy ships and multiple helicopters searched the ocean off Southern California. Rescuers had found several pieces of debris from both aircraft but there was no sign of the victims



Madonna leaves Malawi after week’s charity tour

LILONGWE, Malawi (AP) — Madonna has left Malawi after a nearly weeklong visit with her family, airport and charity officials said Saturday. Officials said Madonna flew out of the southern African country on Friday.

The defending champion trailed 2-0 in the decisive set, but broke the former top-ranked Serb three times in a row en route to a 5-3 lead. Williams then saved a break point in the last game before sealing the win with a forehand that bounced off the net cord
