Saints take 24-10 halftime lead over Patriots
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Drew Brees threw for 229 yards and three touchdowns passing and the New Orleans Saints took a 24-10 lead over the New England Patriots at the end of the first half on Monday night. His scoring passes went for 18 yards to Pierre Thomas, 75 yards to Devery Henderson and 38 yards to Robert Meachem. He completed 11 of his 13 passes.

Patriots lead 7-3 after 1st quarter
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Laurence Maroney’s fourth-down touchdown run gave the New England Patriots a 7-3 lead over the New Orleans Saints at the end of the first quarter on Monday night. It was the second time in three weeks that the Patriots were playing an undefeated team on the road, having lost to Indianapolis on a late Peyton Manning touchdown pass.
Mangano Leads Suozzi At End Of Recount
Nassau Republican Legis. Ed Mangano leads incumbent Democratic County Executive Tom Suozzi by 377 votes at the end of a historic recount for Nassau’s top-elected position, according to the final, unofficial tally figures from the county Board of Elections.
The closing numbers: Mangano, 122,471; Suozzi, 122,094.
Now the battle goes to the courts, where New York State Supreme Court Justice Edward McCarty will decide about 500 ballots that had been challenged during the process. Board of Elections officials would then certify a winner.
Cops: Woman makes threat to help boss make flight
MIAMI (AP) — A South Florida woman has been charged with calling in a bomb threat to keep her boss from missing a flight. An arrest report said a 31-year-old woman was charged Thursday with making a false report of planting a bomb. Miami International Airport officials received a call and an e-mail Wednesday claiming that a bomb was on an American Airlines plane.
Obama to detail big troop increase in Afghanistan
WASHINGTON (AP) — After months of debate, President Barack Obama will spell out a costly Afghanistan war expansion to a skeptical public Tuesday night, coupling an infusion of as many as 35,000 more troops with a vow that there will be no endless U.S. commitment.
