Suozzi Race Too Close To Call

Dems promise to continue fight

Written by Long Island Press on Nov 4th, 2009

Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi took the stage at Democratic Headquarters at the Long Island Marriott in Uniondale to address the room while he clung to a slim 100-plus vote margin.

Suozzi predicted that the race would not be over this day, but said it would probably be back and forth, debating for an unknown amount of time.

“But you know what? We’re gonna win this,” said Suozzi to a throng of cheering supporters.

He was joined on stage by Nassau Democratic Chairman Jay Jacobs and the rest of the County Dems, including Comptroller Howard Weitzman.

Weitzman, who has been ill and entered the room in a wheelchair, is also facing a close race.

Suozzi congratulated the Republicans on their win in the legislature, which swings the power back to the GOP and in effect could handcuff Suozzi.

Over 250,000 votes cast, and about 300 separated the candidates. The Dems promised recounts and absentee ballot review.

They left the stage with complete results unknown.

Just as the room seemed empty for the night, Suozzi announced that he was up 415 votes.

correction on that sorry..60%-70% republican to 30%-40% Dem…absentee ballots

  2. Rob Zimmer says:

Absentee ballots in Nassau County usually run about 1500-2000. It is usually people who are out of town, seniors or military personel. It usually runs 60% republican to 40% Dem. By that formular repubs. would get 1,050 votes to the Dems 450 again this is just a estimate and only the election board knows. I’m sure this will take about 2 weeks to figure out….Good Luck Rob Zimmer

    Tom,
You winning was a good thing. The fact that a man can run for such a prestigious position with some real bad moral convictions is not. These are real issues Tom, not political BS. A man fondled a woman while working as an AMT for the County and you want to look at the positive? Tom, grow up and get rid of sexual deviants. Do not protect them because they work on your campaign.

  5. Patrick James says:

Regarding the County Exec Race…..Does anyone know about how many absentee ballots are out there?

  6. John Maithcraic says:

    Tom

You changed views on gay marriage allmost cost you the election. I like many others could not vote for you this year because of your change. In trying to attract votes for gov. you allmost lost this election. you should remember you voted you in the first time.

  7. Tom Suozzi says:

Rob Walker that would be a horrible thing to post if it wasn’t true. It is also really negative and kicking a guy who just lost the race by 200 something votes. Think of the positive in life and remember who won the race. Thank you. Tom

  8. Rob Walker says:

As a matter of fact yes. Do some researchbefore you offer another human being to Hell. I wouldnt post it if it was not factual. Francis X Debobes, NC Paramedic, arrested….check it out. Than contact the Justiniano family from whom Mrs Mangano was related.

  9. Tom Suozzi says:

WOW…Rob Walker,,,,your going to hell! What comes around goes around. Do you know all of that for a fact?

  10. Voterr says:

I hope the absentee ballots bury Souzzi.
The electorate have had enough of your lies and BS Thomas.
The 2.5% energy tax and your alliance with Charles Wang to destroy central Nassau and turn it into a urban city is what made the constituents who voted against you mad as hell.
At least the Republicans have the majority in the legislature again and hopefully some of the damage you’ve done (and are trying to do) to Nassau can be undone.
