I am also a dedicated skater and when you say “There are way too many tight jeans wearing, world hating, spoiled skateboarding idiots today, but knowing they won’t be able to reproduce is a very reaffirming idea”. I don’t think the average person would take this as a joke. Every single one of your points is completely off. The part about only 100 or 200 people becoming pro? You’re a writer for a boring column. You obviously write because you like it (I hope.) Do you think everyone dreams of becoming a pro? Maybe 7 and 8 year olds.

I skateboard because I love it and will always love it. Anyone who skateboards because they want to become pro, probably isn’t a real skateboarder. I hope you didn’t start writing because you thought it would make you an author… It apparently did not. You know, not everyone can have the success that J.K. Rowling has (notice my reference to most obvious writer out there.)

Since every skateboarder hates the world, you should probably say that every black person is a criminal, too. You will never know anything about skateboarding. Who hasn’t heard of Tony Hawk or played his video game? You’re not involved and know nothing about skateboarding. Get back to your boring job.

As a dedicated skater, it pains to read such ignorance and stereotypical attitudes toward skateboarding. As mentioned in a previous response, it is attitude like yours which are causing skateboarding to continue to battle its negative image with regard to immorality, lack of respect and likelihood for abuse of laws and authority of its followers.

Without repeating much of the criticism your article has received, it is without doubt justified based upon the evident negativity and bitterness upon which you derived this blasphemy.

In addition, your example with the two extremely young kids at age 9 and 11 are poor. Just remember they are 9 and 11 and you are adult. If you want to be treated as an adult then act like one.

Brad Pareso should be fired. As a skateboard advocate and a skateboarder I was disgusted and offended by the authors’ downright defamation of skateboarding youth. I was particularly offended by the statement “There are way too many tight jeans wearing, world hating, spoiled skateboarding idiots today, but knowing they won’t be able to reproduce is a very reaffirming idea.” Skateboarders have been fighting for years to overcome stereotypes that portray them in a negative light. There was nothing even remotely funny about your column. The kid in the video did not set out to crush his balls on a rail, but in writing this, you set out with intention of crushing young skateboards aspirations and dreams. Talk about long term damage.
