A Queens man was arrested for drunken driving after he crashed his car on a parkway in North Bellmore on Saturday night, New York State police said.
Troopers patrolling the eastbound side of the Southern State Parkway near the Wantagh State Parkway spotted a Honda on the right shoulder of the roadway with Peter Formica, 26, of Douglaston, standing outside the vehicle at 2:35 a.m. When the Troopers questioned Formica as to why he was parked on the shoulder of the roadway, he said that he hit the guiderail and pulled over to look at the damage to his vehicle, according to police.
Troopers detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from Formica’s breath, noticed his poor coordination while walking outside his vehicle and also noticed his eyes to be droopy, bloodshot and watery, police said. Formica was charged with driving while intoxicated after he was found to have a blood alcohol content of .22 percent.
Formica is scheduled to appear at First District Court in Hempstead on Nov. 16.
