Alyssa Bennett, 16, fell off of her friend’s motorcycle and was struck by a vehicle on Jericho Turnpike in Smithtown, but the driver fled the scene westbound at 12:30 p.m. on Oct. 31, according to 4th Squad detectives. The vehicle could be a compact, dark-colored Honda or Mercedes, which may have damage to the front end or hood.

Steven Schwamb, 19, of Centereach, was charged with driving while intoxicated following the crash. Bennett had fallen off when he accelerated after the pair were stopped at a red light. She suffered a broken leg.

Detectives are asking anyone with information to call the 4th Squad at 631-854-8452 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
