Man Killed in Bohemia Car Crash

A car crash claimed the life of a 26-year-old man in Bohemia early Saturday morning.

Philip Vatore of Farmingville was ejected from the backseat of the Chevrolet he was riding in after the driver struck a guardrail on Sunrise Highway near Exit 48, investigators said.

Twenty six-year-old Ronkonkoma residents Shannon Klavnan, who was driving, and Ryan Flinch, her passenger, did not tell the Suffolk County Sherriff’s deputy who responded to the scene of the crash that there was a third person in the car because they thought he had run away to avoid talking to police, investigators said.

Vatore was spotted beneath the Locust Avenue overpass a few hours later when it was discovered that he had been thrown over the guardrail, out of view of the first deputy on the scene, according to Chief Michael Sharkey of the Suffolk County Sherriff’s Department.

“Two people who were in the vehicle in the accident completely omitted that there was a third person in the vehicle,” Sharkey said.

Neither Klavnan nor Flinch were charged with a crime.
