Hopefully, Ed will be a gentleman in his dealings with the residents, unions, citizens, etc…..unlike, “The Suozz”, who was a spoiled brat all for himself true corrupt politician. A decade and 100 million from NIFA later, and we are in the worst shape we have ever been in. At least under Gulotta, our taxes were stable for years and we had purchasing power. Suozzi should have focused on paying down debt, not his liberal selfish agenda…….The county doesnt need a multi-million punch clock system, or a zillion dollar remodeled courthouse. Rome was burning, and Nero(suozzi) was fiddling……Good Luck, Ed!!

Matthew…before you catorgorize voters…some of which were your fellow Dems as morons….look at the Suozzi legacy. he left the residents behind a while ago as he stumped for higher office. management is creativity to create REVENUE…that doesn’t mean it ALWAYS comes on the backs of the taxpayers. If he had used his influence with the TOH to get the Lighthouse off the ground years ago, the sales tax from that project might be in the County’s coffers instead of still on the drawing board.

Ray, is absolutely correct, a NEW ELECTION, give us a break. This after that little stint Yatauro pulled to self appoint/hire a replacement for the Budget Director (who quit rather quickly after the election) , reeks of plenty to hide and cover up quickly.

At the end of the day, government for the people and by the people requires checks and balances. And that is exactly what was voted for.

Great. newsday reporting today that Suozzi’s legal team is already looking into a challenge for a new election. Think they’re worried about absentee ballots which are primarily military or senior citizen’s which historically vote GOP. In a bad fiscal climate for the County, the dems are going to look to drag this out in a court fight before the absentee ballots are even counted. Suozzi’s lost the recount….supervised by GOP and Dems alike. Now if he does lose the actual count of absentee ballots, it looks like he won’t accept losing with dignity. Way to let your personal quest for power over ride the County resident’s need to move on and let government actually govern.

Tom suozzi angered the voters by adopting the house heating tax, increased taxes each year, lag pay to County employees and gives himself a 60% raise, DWI & DUI PHOTOS on the internet, threatening to stop many activities for children. Those children have parents who vote each year. Tom Suozzi runs for Governor, campaigns for Hillary Clinton and seeks the Lt. Governor and Senate seats. I can only hope that Tom’s arrogence may get him booted out as County Executive. He becomes Committee Chairman to find solutions to lower school taxes and cannot think outside the box. It is not a surprise that the election is so close, but I am surprised he did not lose by a landslide.

Did it ever dawn on Tom that Mineola tried to start their own Village Police force for more than one reason. It wasn’t purely the concern regarding lack of patrol. It was what they didn’t make public….revenue! Tom figures the only source of revenue is TAXES. There are othe rsources, one of which is more enforcement by the NCPD. That’s one budget you don’t cut Tom. Increased enforcement means more revenue. How many speeders do you see in Garden City? Their PD does heavy enforcement….heavy enforcement brings in revenue. Step up enforcement for cell phone use, running stop signs, etc brings in revenue. The arguement is that revenue doesn’t go into the police budget. Correct…it goes into the County coffers directly. However, increased revenue through any means closes the budget gap and thus puts the County closer to the black. The PD won’t see the increase now but will in 3 years when the budget problems are solved,

Sometimes you need to spend a little to make a lot. the idea is to run the County as a CEO would properly run a profitable business. Running a profitable business is not all about price increases, thus the County isn’t all about tax increases. We requested increased enforcement recently to solve a potential public safety issue. the precinct commander can’t respond as the enforcement unit has been disbanded due to budget cuts and the precinct is in the midst of a “staffing problem”. the result is a cut back of NCPD services. We still have a public safety issue and their isn’t a cop around for miles.

We all have witnessed a vote of anyone but Tom. Tom Suozzi was Mr. Tax and Spend. His “Miracle of Mineola” was accomplished on the backs of all homeowners. My home taxes went up 250% during his tenure. He legalized a taxing scheme that guaranteed a large portion of our senior citizens were forced to depart their homes after retirement.

Karen…it’s not implausible. He can only blame himself. he had a huge warchest to finance his reelection. I won’t debate who the best CE ever was…it’s moot. Suozzi actually did do a good job in many, many areas. The problem is that throughout this fiscal crisis and ever prior to it happening, Suozzi evidentally managed to quietly alienate some of his own Dem voter base via his constant solution to fiscal problems as a tax increase. He did do a lot of good management behind the scenes to consolidate departments, etc within the County. However when it comes to managing the budget, you can not continue to raise taxes and enact new tax after tax to create a revenue flow, while at the same time cut back on vital services within the NCPD, just to name one department. the result of that quiet alienation appears to be one of two things……some Dems voted against him for the reasons stated or other Dems were resigned to his policies and thus assumed they couldn’t support them. that creates voter apathy with the Dems and that’s what you saw….either a change of vote or an apathetic decision to not vote as the vote didn’t count for any change.

Either way, it looks like we’re in for a new direction in the County. let’s just hope it’s the right one.

Having lived on Long Island virtually all of my life, it seems implausible to me that we now risk of loosing the best county executive we’ve ever had. Shame on democrats for not getting out the vote – this is not election that reflects the majority’s will – only its apathy.
