A North Carolina man was arrested for giving a false name to a New York State Trooper who had pulled him over in North Bay Shore on Saturday, New York State police said.

The Trooper pulled the driver over after the Trooper saw the driver swerve on the Southern State Parkway at Exit 42, but the driver didn’t have any identification on him and gave a name of Peter W. Johnson, 40, from Cameron, NC, police said. The Trooper warned the driver that if he is lying about who he is, he will be arrested for impersonation, but the driver insisted that he was not lying, police said.
After the Trooper found there was no such person by that name, the driver told the Trooper he was lying about his name and revealed that his name was Peter W. Kent of Cameron , NC. Kent told the Trooper that he lied because there is a warrant for his arrest and his license is also suspended.
Kent was found to have a warrant out for his arrest from Suffolk police for operating a vehicle with a suspended license and reckless driving. He was charged with false impersonation.
