Nassau police this week kick off a “Parental Educational Series” aimed at educating parents on gang awareness, Internet child exploitation, “sexting,” slang for texting sexually explicit images, as well as heroin and drug awareness.
“Parents are the first line of defense in many instances,” Nassau police Commissioner Lawrence Mulvey said in a statement. “Educating parents about the dangers that children face and the signs of symptoms of things such as heroin and drug usage can only help our children in the long run.”
All three will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursdays. The seminar on gang awareness will take place Nov. 19. The lecture on Internet child exploitation, “sexting” and child safety on the Internet will be on Dec. 3. The heroin and drug awareness meeting is scheduled for Dec. 10.
The series will be held at the Lecture Hall in the Nassau County Police Academy, 200 Second Ave., Massapequa Park. Those who wish to attend can e-mail the Nassau County Police Department’s Community Affairs Office at communityaffairs@pdcn.org. Reservations are required.

Wow Rob,
It is so flattering to see you stalking me across all the boards.
It always impressive when someone is willing to devote such time, effort and attention to another human being.
Still, I do hope you find a couselor you can trust. I’d hate to see you end up like Maj. Hasan.
Rob, I encourage you to step away from the screen and to go out in the Sun for a bit. I have no doubt it will be a great benefit to you.
I continue to pray for your enlightment.

Here we go again. Yet another headline grabbing program to remind us of Shakespere….
” it is a tale Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, Signifying nothing.”
This useless program will accomplish nothing. The solutions to all of these problems and many more are very simple, yet no one wants to implement them.
1) Legalize drugs so this trade is moved into regulated, taxed industry. This will take the money and power from gangs and terrorists.
2) Reshape the economy so that one parent can stay home to raise the kids and be involved in the lives of their children.
3) Stop sheepishly ignoring the fact that our culture deeply encourages sexuality at an ever younger age.
4) To end petty crime, give people jobs that allow them some hope of a better future.
5) Get the schools teaching children things they need to know, instead of how to pass tests and cheat the system.
6) Stop creating unenforcable laws that do little more than make you feel “safe”.
7) If you want healthy kids, kick them out of the house to play instead of parking them in front of a T.V. so you don’t have to be bothered keeping an eye on them.
8) Anytime you don’t want your kid being injured by technology, stop buying it for them.
9) Don’t believe a word the government says and stop watching the news.
10) Stop trading OUR liberty for YOUR comfort..
You people can’t have it both ways. You can’t want all the advantages of advancing technology and culture, without equally accepting responsibility for the consequences.
Despite what the government and media might say, the streets are not fileld with criminals and terrorists. You can stop being paranoid and afraid now.
As if the government knows how to raise children better than parents, “Parental Educational Series” are an unneccesary waste of time and precious economic resource.
If you want to fix your world, fix yourself.
