New York State Police released Wednesday an image of the facial reconstruction that investigators have completed based on a skeletal remains that were found on a parkway embankment in Plainview five years ago.

Major Crimes Unit investigators say the remains, found in a wooded area off of the Northern State Parkway near Sunnyside Boulevard, are believed to have been there for more than 20 years before the grim discovery was made in March 2004. A driver who lost control of her vehicle and drove into the wooded area had discovered the skeleton, police said.

The investigation has revealed that the skeleton is that of a white man, approximately 35-45 years old, 4’11” to 5’4” tall with a 26” waist and a thin build. The man was wearing a red “Members Only” waist-length jacket imported into the USA in the spring of 1982, tan pleated canvass bell bottom pants, a button down white shirt with an orange and blue striped pattern and a 1960 gold Bulova watch.

Investigators have completed the facial reconstruction utilizing measurements from the victim’s skull. Anyone with information as to the identity of the man is asked to contact the Major Crimes Unit at 631-756-3390. All calls will be kept confidential.
