As a die-hard third generation Mets fan, I do not see them making a run at Bay, Holliday or Halladay. We will see more of the same retreads in Queens. Signing one of the top outfield free agents would allow a package around Martinez to be built for a Halladay trade, but the wallet really needs to be opened. It seems we switched places with the Yankees at some point. The Mets used to draft well and sign or trade for the right parts to be competative, now they sign third tier players in hope of the "lighting in a bottle" from them. Would it not be wise to invest the extra 5-6 million for a Bay or Holliday instead of paying three or four guys 2.5-4 million in hopes they have a good year.
