Hunter from LI Dies in ATV Crash in Upstate NY


Authorities say a Long Island man has died in an all-terrain vehicle accident while deer hunting near his upstate New York camp.

The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office says 58-year-old Arthur Thames of West Hempstead had shot a deer Sunday afternoon in the woods outside the hamlet of Roscoe, on the southern edge of the Catskills 100 miles northwest of New York City.

Deputies say he was driving ATV to get the deer when he failed to negotiate the side of a hill and the vehicle rolled over him.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation is continuing.
