Jamiel Savizon, 16, walked up to a 47-year-old man who was sitting in the driver’s seat of his work van while parked near the corner of Front Street and Locust Avenue when the suspect simulated a firearm by holding his right hand inside his jacket and demanded money from the victim at 10:35 p.m., according to 1st Squad detectives.

The victim, in fear of being shot, swung open the driver’s door and struck Savizon, police said. The suspect fled on his bicycle and was apprehended on Front Street by First Precinct officers.

Savizon was charged with attempted robbery and will be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Wednesday.
