A Brentwood man was fatally struck by an eastbound Long Island Railroad train at the station in his hometown on Tuesday night, LIRR officials said.
Jamel Wilson, 26, was hit by the 5:41 p.m. train from Penn Station due in Ronkonkoma at 6:49 p.m. as it passed the Brentwood station at 6:41 p.m., according to Metropolitan Transportation Authority police. The train, a rush hour express, does not stop in Brentwood.
Witnesses saw Wilson run around the Brentwood Road crossing gates, which were down, at the west end of the train station and try to cross the tracks when he was killed, an LIRR spokesman said. Investigators have deemed the death an accident.
Train service was suspended in both directions on the Ronkonkoma line west of Farmingdale resulting in more than two hours of delays while police were on the scene.

The gates were DOWN which are illegal to go around whether on bike, feet, or by car. He should have known better. Common sense people.
there needs to be something done about people crossing
Something needs to be done with the crossings in Bethpage, Farmingdale, Wyndanch, Brentwood and Central Islip.
Whenever trains arrive at these stations it is ridiculously disruptive to traffic and the surrounding area. Now that you see commercial trains on the mainline, the situation is made even worse.
Plus all of these crossings are very dangerous.
