Soderling defeats Djokovic at ATP Finals in London

LONDON (AP) — Robin Soderling edged closer to the semifinals of the ATP World Tour Finals by defeating Novak Djokovic 7-6 (5), 6-1.

Soderling won a tense opening set Wednesday despite wasting three straight set points with Djokovic serving at 5-4. The Serb then put up little resistance in the second and was broken three straight times, netting a forehand volley on Soderling’s second match point at the round-robin tournament.

Soderling, who beat Rafael Nadal in his opening Group B match, finished the match with 10 aces.

The loss ends Djokovic’s 11-match winning streak. He won his first group match and can still advance to the semifinals of the season-ending tournament.

Later Wednesday, Nadal will play Nikolay Davydenko.
