Notre Dame AD denies contacting potential coaches

STANFORD, Calif. (AP) — Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick says he has not contacted any coaches about a potential vacancy if Charlie Weis is fired after the season.

Swarbrick spoke before the Fighting Irish (6-5) played their regular season finale at Stanford on Saturday night. He says any reports that Notre Dame has contacted coaches or authorized a third party to contact coaches is “simply not true.”

Swarbrick says he evaluate Weis’ status “in earnest” after Saturday’s game. He says there is no timetable about when he plans to meet with Weis. Weis is flying home with the team after the game instead of going on a recruiting trip as originally planned.
