2 Arrested for Manslaughter in Wantagh Drag Race Crash


A car crash claimed the life of a 30-year-old man in Wantagh on Friday afternoon and the two men who were drag racing against him were arrested for manslaughter,  New York State police said. sirens2-300x300

Jose Ramos of Valley Stream was racing in his Chevrolet Impala when he crashed into a tree on the right shoulder on the Wantagh State Parkway, just north of Sunrise Highway at 4 p.m., police said. Ramos was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said speed was the cause of the crash. Hector Manual Velasquez Macedo, 28, of Baldwin and Denis Cardona, 33, of Freeport were both charged with manslaughter, reckless endangerment and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

They will be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Saturday.

The investigation in ongoing and any witnesses are asked to call the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation 516-561-8883.
