A man was fatally struck by a car in Wantagh on Friday night.

Nassau police said Marion D. Carter, 61, of Freeport, was walking northbound across Sunrise Highway at Oakland Avenue when he was struck by an eastbound Toyota driven by a 28-year-old Freeport man at 6:05 p.m.

Carter was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was taken to an area hospital to be treated for chest pains and lacerations to his head and face but was not charged with a crime, according to 7th Squad detectives.

The Toyota was impounded for a brake and safety test.
