Talk of parties, Lady Gaga dominates Grammy carpet
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Grammy Awards give the music industry a reason to party like – well – like rock stars, and the party begins on the red carpet outside Staples Center. It was there on Sunday that guests greeted their fellow musicians, talked about the weekend’s festivities and speculated about what Lady Gaga would wear this time. — GAGA’S GETUP: Keri Hilson, John Legend, Ringo Starr, Seal and numerous others spent a good part of their time on the red carpet guessing what envelope-pushing outfit Lady Gaga would arrive in.
Jackson’s 3-D tribute is a hit at Grammy Awards
NEW YORK (AP) — In a mix of the mystical and gimmicky, Michael Jackson posthumously paid tribute to both Mother Earth and 3-D video on Sunday’s Grammy Awards telecast. The occasion was a lifetime achievement award for Jackson from the Recording Academy.

(AP) — Dwight Freeney’s injured ankle is “really bad” and could keep him out of the Super Bowl, a person close to the All-Pro defensive end told The Associated Press in an e-mail Sunday night. MIAMI (AP) — Indianapolis quarterback Peyton Manning donned a red windbreaker, folded his arms against his chest and mingled coolly among players he’s gotten to know over the years. He couldn’t have seemed more relaxed. Come next Sunday, he’ll likely have a different look.
Do rings of Herbie the elm have age, climate data?
YARMOUTH, Maine (AP) — Herbie, the giant American elm tree, is giving his trunk over to science. Since the tree was felled two weeks ago, scientists from Columbia University, the University of Maine and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration have contacted the Maine Forest Service about examining Herbie’s trunk to see what can be learned about the tree’s age and about the climate over the years. Peter Lammert of the Maine Forest Service said his computer has been clogged with e-mails from scientists interested in the stories that Herbie’s growth rings might tell.
Baptists say they were trying to do good in Haiti
PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (AP) — Ten U.S. Baptists arrested trying to take 33 children out of earthquake-shattered Haiti say they were just trying to do the right thing, applying Christian principles to save Haitian children. Prime Minister Max Bellerive told The Associated Press Sunday he was outraged by the group’s “illegal trafficking of children” in a country long afflicted by the scourge and by foreign meddling
