Woman Struck, Killed by Cars on Parkway

A car crash on the Northern State Parkway claimed the life of a 43-year-old Commack woman on Thursday night, New York State police said.

Ellen Micca had lost control of her car while driving westbound and struck the guiderail at the Carman Road overpass west of Wolf Hill Road in Huntington, causing her vehicle to become disabled at about 6:40 p.m., police said.

She then got out of the car “and for unknown reasons entered the right lane of travel where she is struck by several other vehicles,” police said in a statement. The drivers, police said, “may not have realized that they had struck a pedestrian,” but three stopped at the scene.

The parkway was closed for about 4.5 hours while investigators were on the scene. The investigation is continuing and the State Police request anyone who may have witnessed the accident to contact them at 631 231-6389.
