A school bus driver was arrested Monday night after allegations surfaced that he taped shut the mouth of a 10-year-old boy while driving him home from school last month, Suffolk police said.
Norman Besemer, 61, of Shirley, was driving students home from Frank P. Long Intermediate School in Bellport, when he placed clear plastic tape over the boy’s mouth on Jan. 15, police said.

The school is part of the South Country Central School District, whose administrators posted a message on the district’s Web site on Friday that said the school is investigating and the bus driver has been fired. The bus is operated by Montauk Bus Service.
Besemer was charged with endangering the welfare of a child. He will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on March 30.

agreed! these kids are soooo spoiled by their parents and we drivers are taking ALL the abuse for such a short ride… IMHO what we , as parents, need to do is occasionally break a ruler over our kids butts [like the old days] and enforce home rules..no i do not advocate child abuse but there is a difference between abuse and correction … how many times must a parent calmy “correct” their child only to have to bail them out of jail in their teens. sadly fear does correct one’s mistakes as a child ..
Once these kids know they got rid of a driver it will get worse. There are no consequences for these kids, everyone is affraid to do anything, parents included. Its like the inmates running the asylum. I happen to be from this district and heard this child already has brought a beebee gun to school. Where does it end? The victim here is the driver.
Get these kids off the bus and hire monitors before a serius crash occurs
I really don’t see the issue with this. I applaud this man. Imagine if the headline was “40 children hurt in school bus crash …. driver distracted by noisey and unrully child” . We are kissing our childrens behinds way too much these days, Clear tape has almost no strength to it when used on skin, so give him a medal, not a court date.
Ditto comments one through four.
To: Shocked U R so ignorant
It is so impressive, the manner in which you managed to string together four whole words to complete a simple sentence. You are truly a product of the American educational system.
Ah, yet another blind follower of the every child is special clan.
You digest this drivel, as you no doubt have many deficienies to overcome.
No doubt, you are a blind follower of the legions of psychologists, social workers, teachers, lawyers and other so called “experts” who make up the child protection industry.
You see yourself no doubt as a protector of the incapable masses, despite your inability to care for even yourself.
When this little jerk grows up, it is my great and sincere hope he will break into your house first, as he scurries to support his drug habit.
When he buys his first gun, I hope the stray bullet he lets loose will travel directly through your home.
When he proves incapable of supporting himself, I hope he becomes a complete and total burden on you and your spawn.
Why don’t you WAKE UP.
.
i don’t see anything wrong with what the bus driver did some times kids can be quite a handful
I don’t think there are enough ways to thank this guy! Someone better buy another roll of tape for the mouths of the parents, lawyers and clown of a superintendent that are all weeping for this poor traumatized child. Give me a break! They should name the school after Mr. Besemer.
I totally agree. It was “clear” tape, for crying out loud, it’s not like he used duct tape or glue.
A few weeks back, my stepson was running around the bowling alley with his nose taped up like a pig. I took the tape off his face and a minute later, he was doing it again. And then I caught him getting the tape from the hostess’ podium. And after I was done listing the things he wasn’t going to get to play with after his brother’s birthday party was over, I made him go apologize to the hostess. And while he was doing that, I laughed a little because it was funny – bad – but funny.
I would be very surprised if this was the first time the boy on the bus has had tape contact his skin.
They should be giving the driver an award instead of arresting him!!!
These kids need more discipline, and they sure aren’t getting it from tgheir parents these days!
It’s amazing that anyone will even take a job where they have to work with these brats!
Mr. Besemer, I salute you!
