Cops: Driver Smashed Woman’s Window After Wantagh Crash


A 30-year-old Lake Ronkonkoma man was arrested for a violent road-rage incident following a car crash in Wantagh on Tuesday afternoon, Nassau police said.

Officers responded to the crash on the eastbound side of Sunrise Highway at the corner of Morris Gate in which Samuel Ekus, who was driving a Mazda, got out of his car and, using a crow bar, smashed the rear driver-side window of a Chevrolet driven by a 21-year-old woman at 2:10 p.m., police said.

Ekus had first approached the victim’s car, threatened her and attempted to remove her from her vehicle until he found her car doors locked, police said.

Ekus was found to be in possession of approximately 24 pills believed to be Xanax, police said. The victim and a 28-year-old woman in Ekus’ car where taken to an area hospital with minor injuries.

Ekus was charged with menacing, criminal mischief, criminal possession of a controlled substance, possession of a dangerous weapon, driving while ability impaired by drugs and driving an uninsured motor vehicle.

A judge set his bail at $5,000 bond, $2,500 cash during his arraignment at First District Court in Hempstead on Wednesday.
