Children’s liquid cold, allergy medicine recalled

WASHINGTON (AP) — More than 40 over-the-counter infant’s and children’s liquid medications are being recalled in the United States and 11 other countries because they don’t meet quality standards. McNeil Consumer Healthcare issued the recall for Tylenol, Tylenol Plus, Motrin, Zyrtec and Benadryl after consulting with the Food and Drug Administration. The company is recalling the products because some did not meet required quality standards, the company said in a statement Friday.



Shanghai marks comeback with Expo extravaganza

SHANGHAI (AP) — A proud Shanghai threw open the gates of the 2010 World Expo on Saturday, kicking off an event that underscores the Chinese financial hub’s comeback as a major world city after decades of spartan industrialism following the 1949 communist revolution. Like the 2008 Olympics, the World Expo is showcasing China’s growing economic and geopolitical sway, both for the world and for its own public.



Catherine Bach’s husband dies in apparent suicide

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles authorities say the attorney-husband of actress Catherine Bach has been found dead in an apparent suicide. Coroner’s office operations chief Craig Harvey says entertainment attorney Peter Lopez died Friday at his home in the Encino Hills. Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter says a neighbor reporting hearing a gunshot and someone at the home found Lopez’s body.



Authorities seek wounded Arizona deputy in desert

CASA GRANDE, Ariz. (AP) — Authorities in southern Arizona were searching Friday for a wounded deputy who radioed for help and said he had been shot with an AK-47 assault rifle in a remote desert area used by drug- and human-smugglers from Mexico. The unidentified deputy called in to say he had encountered a group and been shot in the abdomen, Pinal County sheriff’s Lt.



Next Batman film to swoop into theaters in 2012

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A sequel to “The Dark Knight” will swoop into theaters in 2012. Warner Bros.



Drama Critics name ‘Orphans Home Cycle’ best play

NEW YORK (AP) — Horton Foote’s “The Orphans’ Home Cycle” has been named best play of the season by the New York Drama Critics’ Circle. Foote’s play is a nine-hour examination of one man’s life in small-town Texas during the first decades of the 20th century. The Circle also voted Friday not to give awards for best musical or best foreign play.
