Hall of Fame pitcher and “Whiz Kid” Robin Roberts, who led the 1950 Philadelphia Phillies to the National League pennant died on May 6 at his home in Florida. His cause of death was not released.

Back in 1950, on the final day of the season, Roberts pitched a 10-inning victory over teh Brooklyn Dogers. It was his 20th win and it won the Phillies’ their first pennant in 35 years.

From 1951-1955, Roberts had the best record in baseball and a fastball estimated to be 95-100 mph. In 1952, he won 28 games in a row. 

In his 19-year baseball career, Roberts finished 305 games out of 609 and had 45 shutouts.

After his baseball career, Roberts worked for a brokerage firm and later coached baseball at the University of South Florida.

He had four sons and seven grandchildren and a great grandson.
