Long Island Shelter Uses Viagra to Keep Dog Alive

Ingrid

After spending her life tied to a fence, Ingrid arrived a neglected puppy at Little Shelter in Huntington with advanced heart worm, a failing heart and 14 lbs of fluid in her abdomen two years ago.  After barely surviving treatment, veterinarians suggested Viagra–a well-known drug that was originally developed as a heart medication, believing it would be beneficial in promoting the blood flow to Ingrid’s damaged heart—and they were right.

After beginning a regimen of one Viagra pill a day, Ingrid began the road to recovery.

Little Shelter asked the public to send donations of one pill, equal to one day of life for Ingrid, and they came pouring in. But it’s been two years and now supplies are running low.

So guys, open your hearts—and your cabinets—and help a pup out.

Donations can be mailed to:     Little Shelter Animal Rescue & Adoption Center, Att:  Ingrid, 33 Warner Road, Huntington, NY  11743
