Queens Man Arrested, Bites Officer in New Hyde Park


A Queens man was arrested on Sunday for biting a police officer after he was caught in New Hyde Park with 15 bags of marijuana in his car.

According to police, Arturo Salazar, 21, of Queens Village, while at a party at a residence on Baxter Avenue, got into a verbal fight with a woman. Upon arrival, police officers found Salazar’s vehicle running in the driveway with the passenger door open, and 15 small bags of marijuana on the front seat.

After Salazar was placed under arrest, he became violent and combative, repeatedly striking the windows of the police car with his head, face, elbows and feet and then kicked one officer while biting another numerous times on the hands and elbow, police say.

The officer, who sustained the bites, was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released.

Salazar is being charged with assault, obstruction of government administration, driving while ability impaired drugs and unlawful possession of marijuana.
