Reports: Celtics coach Doc Rivers will return
BOSTON (AP) — Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers says he is staying with the team he led to the NBA finals twice in the last three seasons. Rivers’ decision was first reported in the Boston Herald. The Celtics coach said in a text message to The Boston Globe, “I want another crack at it with this group.” Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck declined to comment on the coach’s decision on Wednesday afternoon
`Avatar’ star Zoe Saldana is engaged
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Zoe Saldana is capping off a string of hit films with another big engagement – to her longtime boyfriend. A spokesman for the 32-year-old actress says she is engaged to marry actor Keith Britton.
Bruce’s HR sends Reds over Phillies 4-3
CINCINNATI (AP) — Jay Bruce hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning off Roy Halladay, rallying the Cincinnati Reds to yet another win in their final at-bat Wednesday, 4-3 over the Philadelphia Phillies. Joey Votto also homered off Halladay (9-7), who fell to 2-4 since his perfect game on May 29. Jonny Gomes opened the eighth with a single, and Bruce connected for Cincinnati’s 25th comeback win – most in the majors.
UFC bans buzzing vuvuzelas at heavyweight bout
LAS VEGAS (AP) — If fans are thinking about bringing the spirit of the World Cup to the Ultimate Fighting Championship in the form of a vuvuzela, forget about it. UFC president Dana White said Wednesday that vuvuzelas – the beehive-sounding noisemakers that have become famous during soccer’s biggest event – are being banned at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday. That’s when heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar will fight interim belt holder Shane Carwin.
Minister rejects Jamie Oliver approach to health
LONDON (AP) — Britain’s new health minister has rejected celebrity chef Jamie Oliver’s approach to improving school food and tackling childhood obesity. Andrew Lansley has told the British Medical Association that the chef’s campaign to improve nutrition among students did not result in more children eating school meals.
