“Darth Vader” Robs Bank [Photos]

Man dressed as Star Wars villain uses force, direct deposit

Darth Vader robbing a bank? Even with gas prices low, do you have any idea how much gas the Death Star burns through? It gets one parsec per 5,000,000 gallons.

A man dressed as the iconic Star Wars villain robbed a Setauket bank yesterday.

At 11:30 a.m., the Sith Lord entered a Chase bank branch located at 4080 Rte. 347. Rather than drawing his lightsaber (it’s a little hot for a sword made of energy), the robber pulled a gun. He approached the teller and demanded money. The teller, who may or may not have been persuaded by the force, complied. The Dark Lord then fled the bank through the parking lot, heading east.

Darth is described as between 6 feet and 6 feet two inches in height. In addition to a mask, he was also wearing a blue cape and camoflage pants (you try hand-washing an all-black armored suit in outer space).

Detectives and the Rebel Alliance are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.

    Hey Mac,
I guess you do not read any local papers, all of them made light of the Darth Vader bank robbery. Get a sense of humor.

I’ve read both articles, this particular one first. To be honest I got a few laughs out of it despite the matter of armed robbery. Several of my friends and family agree. It didn’t have me in stitches and THAT might have been inappropriate.
Fortunately nobody was hurt. There might have been some mental trauma following, but those are private matters. Apparently the robber had some iota of humor when planning and deciding on the Vader disguise over the generic and uncreative ski mask.
Had the previous article not been published – then I might have felt a bit more uneasy. Perhaps some more time between the two would have yielded better response. All in all LIP decided well in not just perpetuating the bland and uncreative. Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to … lack of humor. (just had to).

Why do banks still insist on having exposed tellers?
Aren’t banks, like the one shown, just begging to be robbed?

Why don’t the insurance companies and FDIC insist
on using separating, bullet-proof, shatter-proof, materials?
    Okay, so it isn’t as customer friendly;
I doubt many people would notice or care.

At the very least, how about adding remote-controlled Tasers
that could be activated to zap the robber,
which, in this case, would be ironic,
since it would be an energy weapon that felled Darth!
