A 47-year-old Freeport man was arrested Tuesday for stealing his son’s identity, Suffolk County police said.
Ricky Lynch Jr., 27, of Coram, called police in February after he began to suspect that his father, Ricky Lynch Sr., had used his Social Security number and obtained a New York State driver license in his name, police said.
Lynch Sr. received traffic summonses while using the driver license he obtained with his son’s information, police said. The son was unaware that summonses were issued in his name and that his license was suspended, resulting in his auto insurance being dropped, police said.

Lynch Jr. believes his father has been using his Social Security number in 1995 and obtained loans and cashed checks using the stolen information causing about $78,000 in losses, police said. Lynch Sr. also uses numerous aliases and has past arrests for similar frauds, police said.
Identity Theft Unit detectives working with New York Department of Motor Vehicles investigators arrested Ricky Lynch Sr. at Nassau County court in Mineola.
He was charged with identity theft, forgery and tampering with public records. He will be arraigned Wednesday at First District Court in Central Islip.

Hope he’s not expecting a fathers-day gift.
