Adrienne Simmons, Kickboxer, Dies After Fight

Adrienne Simmons, a 34-year-old Atlanta kickboxer, died Tuesday after she was knocked unconscious during a fight on Sunday.

Simmons was participating in the International Kickboxing match in Orlando when she was hit with a left hook that knocked her unconscious. The fight stopped and a doctor tended to her. She was later taken to an Orlando hospital where she was treated before dying two days later.

According to reports, Eric Haycraft, the coach of Lindsay Scheer, Simmons’ opponent, and Chike Ajuda, Simmons’ boyfriend, are criticizing the fact that there was no ambulance on duty at the tournament, and that it took an hour to get Simmons to a hospital.

Steve Fossom, president of the International Kickboxing Federation, has stated that he arranged for an ambulance to be on-call, but it was not present during the fight.

A spokeswoman for the Orange County sheriff’s office has said that the death is considered an accident.
