2 Killed in Northern Parkway Crash


A car crash on the Northern State Parkway claimed the lives of the driver’s wife, father and seriously injured the driver’s young son on Friday evening in North Hills, New York State police said.

Michael Preston, 49, was driving his Nissan Maxima westbound when he lost control of the car, ran off of the roadway onto the shoulder and into the woods, striking a large tree before coming to rest between exits 27 and 28 at 6:30 p.m., police said.

Preston’s 49-year-old wife, Victoria, ad his 87-year-old father, Theodore, died at North Shore Hospital in Manhasset.

The driver was taken to Winthrop University Hospital where he is listed as stable condition with unspecified chest fractures. His 12-year-old son, Michael, was taken to Nassau University Medical Center for treatment of unspecified neck and internal injuries, police said.

The parkway’s westbound lanes in the area were closed for approximately four hours while investigators were on the scene.

The Bureau of Criminal Investigation is continuing the investigation into the cause of the crash. State Police are interested in anyone who may have witnessed the accident contacting them at 631-756-3300.
